WORLD'S BIGGEST AIRPORT

Just in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China has opened the world’s biggest airport. The new Terminal 3, built at a cost of $3.5 billion USD, measures a gigantic 501 square MILES! This one building is 17% bigger than the combined floorspace of all of Heathrow’s terminals 1, 2, 3, 4 and new Terminal 5.

From the air, the new airport looks like a giant guitar waiting for the God of all Guitar Heros to come down from the heavens and rock the planet. The building’s designer describes it this way:

This is a building borne of its context. It communicates a uniquely Chinese sense of place and will be a true gateway to the nation. This is expressed in its dragon-like form and the drama of the soaring roof that is a blaze of ‘traditional’ Chinese colours – imperial reds merge into golden yellows. As you proceed along the central axis, view of the red columns stretching ahead into the far distance evokes images of a Chinese temple.

The new airport is part of a series of structures that China is building for their Olympic coming out party on 08-08-08. No other country has ever spent this much money on an Olympics and I doubt any country ever will in the future. They’re making the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver look like a five and dine store. No doubt about it. To get rich IS glorious.

WORLD'S LARGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE

The Akashi-Kaikyō Bridge (明石海峡大橋, Akashi Kaikyō Ō-hashi?), also known as Pearl Bridge in Japan was completed in 1998 and is the world's longest suspension bridge (measured by the length of the centre span of 1,991 metres/6,532 feet). It links the city of Kobe on the mainland of Honshū to Iwaya on Awaji Island by crossing the busy Akashi Strait. It carries the part of the Honshū-Shikoku Highway.
The bridge is one of the key links of the Honshū-Shikoku Bridge Project, which created three routes across the Inland Sea

WORLD'S LONGEST BRIDGE

Hangzhou Bay Bridge (simplified Chinese: 杭州湾大桥; traditional Chinese: 杭州灣大橋; pinyin: Hángzhōu Wān Dàqiáo), is a bridge with cable-stayed bridge portion across Hangzhou Bay off the eastern coast of China. It was linked up on June 14, 2007,[1] and connects the municipalities of Shanghai and Ningbo in Zhejiang province. The bridge is the longest trans-oceanic bridge in the world, although it does not have the longest cable-stayed main span. The opening ceremony was held on June 26, 2007 with great domestic media publicity, though after the opening ceremony, the bridge would only be used for test and evaluation purposes. It was opened to the public on May 1, 2008.[2]

WORLD'S TALLEST BUILDING

The Burj Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is currently the world's tallest man-made structure. As of 12 May 2008, the building, which is still under construction, stood at 636 m (2,087 ft). When completed, it is planned to rise over 800 m (2,625 ft).
